Belmont Police Report Increase in Residential Burglaries

The Belmont Police Department is reporting a string of burglaries have taken place throughout the city this week.

Since Monday, a total of seven burglaries or attempted burglaries have been reported at homes throughout Belmont, Police Lt. Pat Halleran said on Friday.

“We are asking for the public’s help in not only solving these crimes, but also preventing future burglaries,” Belmont Police Chief Don Mattei said in a statement.

The burglaries have all occurred between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the central section of Belmont, west of El Camino Real and east of Alameda de las Pulgas, according to the Police Department.

In each case, no one was home at the time of the burglary, and the suspects appear to have taken jewelry and electronic equipment, such as laptops, police said.

The burglaries have occurred at the following times and locations:

Police are looking for two persons of interest in connection with the crimes, who were seen Thursday in the 1800 block of Oak Knoll Drive.

One man is described as white, about 25 to 30 years old with a thin build and short blond hair. He reportedly contacted a resident in the area asking “if they had a dog for sale.”

When he was told he had the wrong address, he left. No vehicle was seen or heard.

The other person of interest is described as black, about 20 to 30 years old with a medium build and casual dress.

He was spotted knocking on doors at various residences, and is associated with a gray BMW sedan.

The Belmont Police Department is reminding residents to report any suspicious behavior and to remember to lock homes and cars.

“Residents should make sure they lock their homes when they are away and consider an alarm system,” Mattei said. “If you see a person or vehicle in your neighborhood that looks suspicious, please call police right away, it’s important that neighbors look out for each other.”
