Residents are invited to a public hearing on June 26 to learn more about proposed rate adjustments.
The City of Belmont will hold a public hearing next month (a Proposition 218 notification*) to inform residential and business property owners and seek input about proposed sewer rate adjustments in fiscal years 2013 and 2014. The city is responsible for the operation, maintenance and improvements of its sewer collection system. The public hearing regarding the proposed sewer rate adjustments will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 7:30 pm in the City Council Chambers. The proposed rate adjustments will be presented to the City Council for adoption at this meeting. The Safeway store on El Camino Real in Belmont is exploring a comprehensive remodel.
For those of us who have been around a while, it seems like the Safeway at 1100 El Camino Real is still a fairly "new." But at his State of the City address last week, Mayor Dave Warden outlined a few potential future Belmont projects, and Safeway was at the top of the list. The store is exploring a potential comprehensive remodel, including a revised site plan, enlarged the store, additional podium or rooftop parking, additional retail shops on the site, and a public plaza area. Crystal Springs Uplands School would like to build a new middle school on Davis Drive in Belmont. The Belmont Planning Commission will discuss the proposal at tonight's meeting. The proposal for Davis Drive calls for a middle school (grades 6-8) for up to 246 students. The campus would include three structures on approximately seven acres: a main academic center; a cafe; and a gymnasium. A turfed soccer field is also included in the first phase of the project. The private Hillsborough school wants to build a new middle school on seven acres of property on Davis Drive in Belmont.
The Belmont Planning Commission will discuss the zoning and envrionmental aspects Tuesday night of a proposal by Crystal Springs Uplands School (CSUS) to relocate its middle school campus to Davis Drive. The Mitigated Negative Declaration is the document by which the city reviews the aesthetic and environmental impact of the project with regards to grading, construction and occupancy. The document is in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The proposal calls for a 52,000 square-foot campus facing the canyon on what is currently occupied by 84,000 square feet of office and warehouse space. Afshin Oskoui, says the city needs to do a better job of communicating and educating the public.
In an email to Belmont Patch on Wednesday, Afshin Oskoui, Belmont's director of public works explained the city ordinance regarding car washing in driveways. Oskoui starts out by saying that the city needs to do a better job communicating to and educating the public on the rules and requirements regarding car washing. "First of all, washing a car in your driveway is not a prohibited activity. Comments from Patch users on Ralston Avenue traffic/speeding issues came into play at Tuesday's Belmont City Council meeting.
Councilmember Coralin Feierbach asked city staff to place traffic and speeding issues on Ralston Avenue on the Belmont City Council's 2012-13 list of citywide priorities Tuesday night. The council had a list of approximately 27 items to review for prioritizing for the next fiscal year. City manager Greg Scoles led the council through the list of items for consideration for FY13 priorities. The items were grouped into categories for discussion purposes. The Belmont City Council will meet Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. at in City Hall Chambers, One Twin Pines Lane. Prior to tonight's Belmont City Council meeting, the five council members were presented with a list of potential items for FY 2013 Citywide Priorities. The Council might consider making an adjustment to water usage this year, which will impact the 2013 tax bill (since there is one year lag). We had a drought for much of the period (Dec-Mar) this year and I noticed many people using water for outside irrigation - the assumption is that residents do not use outside water from Dec through Mar and the sewer fees are based on usage during that time …   more ›
