Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the Ciyty Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

Actually, the city council does have the power to do something. SPI Holdings and it's owner, Mr.Read More Dennis Wong have unilaterally decided to close Ice Chalet by terminating its lease. Although it may be true that the city cannot force SPI Holdings to renew that lease, the city does have final approval on the recreational use for that land. The statement that Mr. Lim made in his OP Ed indicating that the Ice Chalet sits on property zoned for business is incorrect. Unless and until something else is approved the land use for that site is designated for an ice rink and only an ice rink. The City Attorney has advised SPI that they cannot touch the building until this matter is resolved. We are a community of thousands and we will continue to fight for this rink for as long it takes. We love our kids and our rink and we want it to stay in the community. We are asking the City Council to represent the people and fight for what is right. The community has had to fight for the rink twice in the past. At one time, the rink closed for two years before it reopened. We will do what it takes to keep our rink for our kids and families . We are not giving up. We are not going away.

Yes, I was at BJs last night for dinner. No more Starbuck's..loved seeing the little ice skatersRead More sipping their hot chocolate after their skating lessons. No more Home Depot, Chipolte, Target, Toys R Us, Sports Authority, BJs. SportsClips. My family spends a lot of money there. I will go to Redwood City instead if they take out the ice rink. This is a bad idea. The ice rink creates at wonderful vibe at Bridgepointe. That is one of the main reasons I liked shopping there....My family does not even skate at that rink. However, I am very tired of the children of CA getting the short end of the stick all the time...I will never spend another cent at Bridgepointe if the rink goes away! I would not want the developer to profit from my family's hard earned money.

Also, the Bay Area has a wonderful Olympic gold medal ice skating tradition in Kristi Yamaguchi andRead More Brian Boitano...I remember the "Battle of the Brians" like it was yesterday. Brian Boitano of the USA battling it out with Brian Orser of Canada in the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. Brian Boitano pulled it out and got the gold medal! It was one of the most thrilling moments in US skating history. And how can one forget the beauitful and incredible Kristi Yamaguchi clinching the Olympic Gold Medal in Albertville, France in 1992. The French Alps were unbelievable. Please Bridgepointe Management have a heart!!!

Very sad....the children of our community need to come first....the ice center is more important toRead More our community than yet another retail outlet. City Council needs to support the children of our community/ children over developers, children over chain stores.

Please come to the San Mateo City Council meeting tonight at 7:00 or shortly after and voice yourRead More concern about replacing our community's skating rink with a retail store. Bring something to read/do while we wait for our turn to speak. City of San Mateo 330 West 20th Avenue San Mateo, CA 94403 dina.artzt@comcast.net if you are interested in updates on our cause.

My son plays(ed) hockey here. Has grown as a individual with his team(s), coaches, parents and otherRead More kids. We need this rink! Any other rink in the area which are smaller than this NHL sheet of ice and are booked to capacity. Where shall my son go skate now? SPI Holdings is kicking adult skater, hockey players, figure skaters, disabled, specific groups, fundraisers and the list goes on. No grass field with toilets will replace what we had till last Saturday and final locks on June 1st. Please lets find investors and operators so may continue our love of this sport of skating. We do not have the option for pond skating here with our weather, we need more ice rinks, don't take this one from us.

We are having a SAVE THE RINK RALLY 3 today at Bridgepointe..the Rink is now closed..we are doingRead More everything we can to get the city to reopen the rink for our community...12-2 JUNE 1st...this is the day that SPI now formally owns the rink and they are choosing not to run it. They have been advised that cannot touch the rink until the recreational use requirement has been satisfied. Come join us.

Tommy Tee, go have the player raise your kids.
Davina April 30, 2013 at 12:49 pm
Why does he need to hide? Get a grip people. It's suppose to be America where you can be who youRead More want to be and if you are not gay. Fine... But no need to bash him. PS finaua's comment sounds so irrational. Poor thing.
Tommy Tee April 30, 2013 at 01:38 pm
Hard to believe there are comments like Finaua's in this day and age. I guess ignorance will alwaysRead More be around us. Her comment is baseless and actually is contrary to research. Research suggests that they turn out about the same, no better, no worse and no more likely to be gay than other kids

A great young man! He also went to Central Elementary where I had him in my third grade class. HeRead More was a hard worker even then. We're rooting for you, Ry!
