CSU Salaries: What's A Few Hundred Thousand, Anyway?

Senator Leland Yee's office is concerned about large discrepancies found in officials' income figures as reported by different sources.

  The press release was delivered to us Thursday about mid-afternoon with a bold headline: "University officials refuse to answer inquiries, say it’s unnecessary to respond to public scrutiny" The release came from Adam Keigwin, Chief of Staff in the office of Senator Leland Yee. It made for some pretty interesting reading. According to Keigwin: "Records show officials from the California State University system are failing to fully disclose the compensation of several of their top executives." The Chief of Staff suggests "there are major compensation discrepancies when comparing IRS filings (Form 990) to records at the State Controller’s office and what CSU discloses on their website or in public records requests. Caltrain To Run Special Bay to Breakers Train

Spokesperson says kegs will not be allowed onboard.

  Caltrain is expanding its weekend service to help Belmont and San Carlos runners reach the starting line at the 101st Zazzle Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. The race begins at Howard and Spear streets in San Francisco at 7 a.m Sunday. Caltrain will be running special early trains so that participants can arrive by the start time. The "A" train will depart from the San Carlos station at at 5:42 a.m., make a stop at the Belmont station at 5:45 a.m. and roll at express speed to San Francisco, arriving at 6:08 a.m. A second train called the "D" train will depart from the San Carlos station at 6:09 a.m. (note: the "D" train is NOT stopping in Belmont). Maker Faire Expects 100K Really Cool Visitors

The weekend event will feature hundreds of new inventions as well as DIY lessons on everything from farming to robotics.

  Holistic hula-hoops, robotic dogs, science geeks and craft enthusiasts are all descending on San Mateo this weekend for the 2012 Maker Faire at the San Mateo County Event Center. More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the Faire, which showcases presentations and interactive exhibits by dozens of innovators and inventors from a range of fields, including electronic arts, robot technology, computer science and creative engineering. Massimo Banzi is the cofounder of Arduino, a company that makes "micro-controller boards" used in electronically-powered inventions and interactive experiments. San Carlos Hometown Days Kicks Off Today

The family festival in San Carlos' Burton Park runs for three days.

  For 32 years, the Hometown Days parade has been gracing San Carlos’ streets with marching bands, pony rides, music, petting zoos and bouncy castles. It’s a beloved community event run exclusively by volunteers and paid for with donations. The event draws the attention of more than 12,000 people from around the Bay Area. Monday is Last Day to Register to Vote in June 5 Election

Eligible voters must register by May 21.

  With the Presidential Primary Election three weeks away, eligible San Mateo County voters have until Monday to file a new or updated voter registration card to be allowed to vote in the June 5 election. “New to this year, the legislature is allowing individuals who obtain their American citizenship after May 21 the opportunity to register and vote up until the close of polls on June 5 in the Primary Election,” said San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer Mark Church.   Big smiles adorned the faces of Facebook employees Friday morning, as the Menlo Park-based social networking giant began trades shares on the public market. In the hours after the market opened, Facebook shares erased nearly 18 percent of their early gains, Reuters reported. But Facebook, which was headquartered in neighboring Palo Alto for years, still raised nearly $18.4 billion in one of the biggest IPOs in history. At their new headquarters in Menlo Park, CEO Mark Zuckerberg rang the morning trading bell before hugging and high-fiving COO Sheryl Sandberg and other employees, according to Reuters. Judge Says Cheating Student Cannot Return to Class

The Sequoia High School student's father sued the school district over the punishment.

  When Jack Berghouse's sophomore son was expelled from an honors English class at Sequoia High School for copying a homework assignment in March, Berghouse sued the Sequoia Union High School District claiming his son's due process rights were violated. But according to the San Jose Mercury News, San Mateo Superior Court Judge George Miram ruled Thursday that Berghouse's son would not be allowed to re-enroll in the honors class for the rest of the semester while the case is litigated. Miram wrote that Jack Berghouse had failed to establish the likelihood that he would prevail on the merits of the case at trial. The judge rejected the lawsuit's argument that the expulsion would adversely affect the teenager's chances for success. "There is …

Services Planned for Former San Mateo Mayor John Lee

The services will be held for Lee, who died May 7, at the San Mateo County Events Center.

The city of San Mateo has announced a memorial service will be held for former Mayor John Lee, who died on May 7 at the age of 81. Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to share in this celebration of his life, which will be held on June 3 from 3-5 p.m. at the San Mateo County Events Center, located at 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo. Mayor Brandt Grotte will lead a formal Memorial Service with a reception immediately following the service. Parking is available on site.
