The Belmont Library is part of the Peninsula Library System and is the only public library in town. Most materials may be checked out for three weeks, with two renewals. Renewals may be made online at smcl.org, by calling (650) 638-0399 or at the library.

Founded in 2006, the library offers a variety of programs and events for children, teens and adults. During the school year, a homework center is open from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Thursday for children and teens. Free tutoring is offered in the center, as well as computers for research.

  • Specialties: Visitors with a library card may print three free black and white pages per day, and are charged 15 cents for each additional page. Color printers are available at 40 cents per page.

  • Internet use policy: For those with a library card, the first hour is free on a library computer. If there is no one waiting, the second hour is free as well.
  • Programs/classes: The library offers free computer classes for adults every Wednesday that teach various skills including how to use the Internet, email and Skype. A monthly calendar is published with events for children, teens and adults as well.
  • Book donation information: Books may be donated at the library through the program Friends of the Library. Donated books are sold at two locations; at the library, and at a cottage located behind the Senior Community Center near Twin Pines Park.

Up until the the late 50's the library was located on Waltermire. It was a very simple structure back then. I've heard it described from Belmontians back that that it was "not much more than a hut".
