The Week Ahead in Belmont: Medicare Help, Tree Lighting & Mr. Scrooge

Here's a glimpse of things coming up in Belmont this week, Dec. 2-6.

Monday, Dec. 2

Medicare Overview at Belmont Library
Counselors will provide an introduction to Medicare Part D options and assist participants with finding a plan that meets their individual needs. HICAP will provide information about the Affordable Care Act, which goes into effect next year, and the changes may affect Medicare beneficiaries. A healthy snack will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Belmont Library.

Holiday Tree Lighting at Carlmont Shopping Center
Holiday gift boutique, Santa, and carolers starting at 3:30 p.m. in Carlmont Shopping Center.

Chanukah Celebration (Burlingame)
Chabad of the North Peninsula’s annual Chanukah bash is set to feature fun and entertainment for the entire family in the center of Burlingame.

Learn How to Use Facebook at Belmont Library
Learn about this popular social networking site, including how to create your own account; find helpful applications, and stay safe. Previous computer basics and word processing or equivalent suggested.

Watch a low-budget film at the Belmont Library! A couple of high school grads spend one final night cruising the strip with their buddies before they go off to college. Rated PG, 110 min.

Finishing Touches: A Holiday Home Tour & Boutique
The Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula (JLPA•MP) will host its sixth annual fundraiser, Finishing Touches: A Holiday Home Tour & Boutique on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, 2013 based at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley (2050 University Ave, East Palo Alto, CA 94303).




Friday, Dec. 6

 A Christmas Carol: The Musical (Dec. 6-15)

Dec. 6 through Dec. 15, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun.; 7:30 p.m. Thu.-Fri. The university's Department of Theatre and Dance presents free performances of a show based on Charles Dickens' classic novel. Ticket holders are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item or new toy to be donated and distributed to members of the local community. 

Free First Friday Program at SMC History Museum
Not only is admission free the entire day (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), but two programs are planned for the public without any fees.  At 11:00 a.m., preschool children will be invited to learn about where people live.  They will create birdhouse sun catchers to take home.  Then Museum staff will conduct a special program in its California Dream exhibit gallery, which describes San Mateo County’s history as a suburban community.  Here the youngsters will hear the story, City Dog, Country Frog.  At 2 p.m., museum docents will lead tours of the Museum for adults.
