Donors to Receive Pint of Ice Cream for Pint of Blood

The American Red Cross' "Pint for "Pint campaign kicks off on Monday and lasts through August.

Beginning Monday, Bay Area blood donors will receive a pint of ice cream for donating a pint of blood to the American Red Cross.

The "Pint for Pint" promotion will offer donors at several participating blood centers a free coupon for a pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream, according to the Red Cross.

The promotion, which runs through the end of August, is designed to encourage people to donate blood during a time Red Cross officials call challenging. Many regular blood donors are away on vacation or busy with other summer plans, but the demand for blood often grows due to increased road and travel-related injuries, officials said.
