Swimming, gymastics, diving, basketball... the list goes on of exciting Olympic events that have happened just one week into the Summer 2012 Olympics.
But what do you think has been the most exciting to date?
If you think the best one hasn't occurred yet, perhaps a track and field event, let us know! Which event or sport are you most looking forward to?
In racing (swimming, biking, running, etc.), a photo finish and stop watch can settle any and all disagreements over who won. So there are rarely any valid arguments over who the winner is. And frequently, when the world's best athletes are competing, only a fraction of a second differentiates who earns the gold. But events that rely on a panel of judges to decide are frustrating to me because it is always subjective, and everyone sees and interprets the same event differently. The gold medal in a highly-competitive gymnastics competition could be awarded to the lesser athlete or team, based solely on the opinion of a few (albeit, expertly trained) people. That is difficult for me to accept. I suppose judges introduce the element of human error, which can be exciting. But I much prefer to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the athletes on the medal stand are there in correct order.
That was a great race and an under appreciated sport. The Americans were terrific, holding off Canada. Even better, two of the women attended school in the Bay Area (Kohler went to Cal, Logan went to Stanford).
