For the first time, carnival kicks off on Friday night

The festival's carnival, which includes several rides and attractions, will open for the first time on Friday night this year, Dyckman told Patch.

And, the organizers have been hard at work extending the carnival area to fit in more rides than ever before.

"We're also extending the carnival hours this year," Dyckman told Patch. "Even though the festival itself ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday, the carnival rides will keep going until 7 p.m. And, they'll keep going until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday."

Friday night will also play host to a pre-festival reception being held specially for artists exhibiting during the festival, sponsors, and Gold Circle chamber members.

"And, all our artists are local, within a 20-mile radius," Dyckman added.

New features and favorable conditions

Dyckman said this year, the festival has had more vendors sign up than in many years.

"We're very excited," she said. "It is going to be wall-to-wall artists, and we have many delicious food and beverage vendors as well."

One aspect Dyckman said she is personally excited about is the fact that, out of the nine wine vendors pouring at this year's festival, three will be serving bio-dynamic wines, and they even have one vegan wine vendor this year as well.

"And, if anyone is wondering what a bio-dymanic wine or a vegan wine is, just drop by the information booth and we'll be happy to tell you!" she said.

Also, the food and beverage section of this year's festival will be located closer to the live entertainment stages this year, so that festival-goers can grab a plate full of food and walk right over to sit down and eat while enjoying the live performances.

The festival will once again have two stages full of live entertainment - the Meadow Stage and the Amphitheater Stage. Tune in to Foster City Patch Thursday to see a full schedule of the acts that will be performing this year.

"I think we've booked every single talented act ever to come out of this area, back-to-back, every 30 minutes," Dyckman said with a laugh. "And, calls are still coming in."

If one thing is certain, it sounds like this year's 2012 Foster City Arts and Wine Festival is going to be an event to remember.

"And, the best part is, the weather gods are really smiling down on us this year," said Dyckman - temperatures should be in the 72-75 degree range on both Saturday and Sunday.
