A Little Something for Everyone

Check out what's going on at the Belmont Library!

Greetings from the Belmont Library! My name is Stephanie and I’m a library assistant here.  My coworkers and I will be blogging on Belmont Patch weekly to let you know what’s going on at the library!

We just celebrated our 5th birthday on Friday with a fun party, chocolate cake, and live music. If you haven’t been in since the new library opened, you should stop by and check out the beautiful building. Our collection includes books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, CDs, eBooks, and audio books. We also have wonderful programs every week for children, teens and adults.

We have storytime for children every week day. We recently added a pajama storytime on Wednesday nights. Put on your jammies and join Ellie and me for stories and songs at 7pm. We wear our PJs too! On the first Friday of every month, we host a movie for children and families. This Friday we will be showing Kung Fu Panda at 7:00pm.

Teens can kick off the week with the Angry Birds Craft & Tournament on Monday May 2nd from 3:30-5pm. In this special craft, we’ll be creating characters from the popular game and then having an actual angry birds tournament. On Wednesday, we’ll be showing The Green Hornet from 3:30-5pm for teens as well.

On Tuesday at 7pm, the Asian Art Museum will be presenting a docent lecture on their new exhibit, Bali: Art, Ritual, Performance. This exhibit displays the kind of music and performance that fills Balinese ritual life.

If you are in your twenties or thirties, you should check out the 20-30 Something Book Club. Our next meeting is on Tuesday May 10th at 6:30pm. We will be discussing Barbara Kingsolver’s The Bean Trees. If you can’t make it this month, you can get started on our June book, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

When I’m not at the library, I really enjoy reading and watching movies or TV. Did you know you can check out TV shows on DVD from the library? If any of you are fans of Friday Night Lights, we already have the fifth (and final) season for you to check out here. You definitely won’t be disappointed with the series finale. I just finished reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin since the movie is coming out next week. It was a really entertaining read and is perfect for your beach bag this summer.

See you at the library!
