League practices begin in February and the season begins in May.

According to league president Steve Vega, last year's team of 13-year-olds were just two runs shy of qualifying for regional play.

"We are growing every year and have developed into one of the best organizations in San Mateo County," said Vega.

Now in its 61st year nationally, Babe Ruth Baseball provides a competitive league on regulation fields with some of the best coaching available on the peninsula.

"Our goal is development of young players for preparation of high school baseball.  Bel-Mateo Babe Ruth has a reputation of being one the most organized programs with common goals for all," Vega added.

Players must register with the league by Jan. 13. Vega stressed the importance of early registration, but added that walk-in registrations will be accepted at the Sunday tryout.

Fees for the 2012 Season are $300 for Belmont/Redwood Shores residents and $320 for non-residents. To register, go to www.BelMateoBabeRuth.com

Vega said that payment plans are avaiable for families that require financial assistance.
