Preview: Belmont to Host Fencing Exhibition

Former fencing champion and an instructor will teach a few "pointers" on Nov. 9.

Although the proceeds will benefit Belmont’s senior services, the Fencing Exhibition to be held Nov. 9 from 3-4 p.m. at the Twin Pines Senior and Community Center, is open to all ages.

Former Italian National Fencing Champion and second place World Fencing champion, Filippo Zanella, will be on hand to demonstrate the sport of fencing. In addition, and instructor from the San Francisco Fencing Club will fence in the exhibition.

This will be Zanella’s second visit to Belmont; the champion fencer visited the Belmont Rotary Club in 2010. As a PhD engineering research student at UC Berkeley, Zanella is part of a Group Study Exchange team from Italy. He is donating his time for the exhibition.
