Local Team Finding Success in Cooperstown

Bay Area Mavericks player Zack Smurthwaite says he's "living his dream" in Cooperstown.


When the Bay Area Mavericks left for Cooperstown, New York earlier this month, they knew they were about take part in a .  And they had every reason to believe they would make their mark on this storied town during the Tournament that began on June 16.  And so far, they are living up to their expectations.

"The Mavericks marched in the opening day parade with huge smiles and a lot of pride. It was a day unlike any other with skydivers, thousands of baseball players from around the country and cheering fans. After the opening ceremony the Mavericks competed in several skills competitions and represented themselves exceptionally well," said team spokesperson Kim Patton.

Adrian Posadas, who was selected by his teammates to compete in the King of Swat home run competition,  finished second in a field of of 104 players.

Patton said the Mavericks spent Father's Day playing baseball and visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame. The team went 1-1 for the day, Josh Cerejo pitched a complete game for the win and Chris Newberry knocked in the game winning RBI. 

Player Zack Smurthwaite reported he is "living his dream" here in Cooperstown, added Patton.
