Lee Strikes Out 14 As Belmont Defeats AZ 8-0

In the first round of pool play in the Western Regional Tournament, the Belmont Redwood Shores All Stars cruised to a first-round win over Chandler, AZ.

By the end of the first game of the Western Regional Tournament Friday afternoon, the ESPN announcer calling the game between Belmont Redwood Shores and Chandler, AZ, commented that college coaches better be paying attention to Belmont Redwood Shores pitcher, 12-year-old Sean Lee.

Lee threw a no hitter, 14-strike out game and had plenty of offensive support to boot in Belmont's 8-0 win in round-one of the Western Regional Tournament in San Bernadino Friday afternoon.

The Belmont Redwood Shores 11/12 Year-Old All-Stars compiled 11 hits over six innings with home runs by Noah Marcelo and Brad Shimabuku. Sean Lee threw 77 pitches, just eight pitches short of the maximum amount allowed by the league (85).

Dozens of fans, many wearing red in support of the team, gathered in the Carlmont High School Student Union on Friday to watch the game streamed live by ESPN3.

Carlmont teacher and Belmont Redwood Shores Little League board member Patricia Braunstein helped organize the "watch party."

The Little League board has been working around the clock to pull this off," said Braunstein.

"What got me so excited is that this was a great opportunity for the whole community to pull together--the City of Belmont, the Chamber of Commerce, Carlmont High School and Little League.

It was crazy---it took a ton of phone calls and emails, but everybody was working together. We do it for the kids and for the community," Braunstein smiled.

Jeff Burgos helped pull the tricky audio/video feed together. The games are streamed live on ESPN3, but that meant setting up laptops, overhead projectors, screens and a sound system--no easy feat to pull off on such short notice, but Burgos, a Little League coach and father of two players in the league didn't blink at the challenge.

"I help with the A/V and do the BRSLL website and the Facebook page," said Burgos humbly.

Fortunately Burgos and Braunstein's hard work will continue to pay off, as Belmont will now play again play the next round Sunday at 9 a.m. and there will be another watch party at CHS.

Watch parties are free, however donations are accepted and refreshments sold benefit the team as they inch closer to the Little League World Series.
