Belmont Sports Teams Come Together on Turf Field Design

The design will retain the dirt pitcher's mound and home plate area, while providing synthetic turf in the outfield and soccer field.

The Synthetic Turf Project at the Belmont Sports Complex is one step closer to reality following a vote by the Belmont Parks & Recreation Commission earlier this month.

In a 6-1 vote, the commission gave the go-ahead for a design alternative for synthetic turf on the soccer field and a portion of the baseball field. The design is a compromise  between the two sports groups. The design retains a dirt mound and home plate area for the spring and summer seasons, while the remaining area is comprised of synthetic turf. It allows the city flexibility to accommodate future sports like lacrosse while respecting the tradition of baseball by keeping the clay mound.

The Parks and Recreation Department will meet with the landscape architect to restart the design and move the project forward.
