After a tremendous season in the field with Double-A Richmond last year, Cavan was chosen as the best defensive second baseman in all of Minor League Baseball. The President of Minor League Baseball, Pat O'Conner, and a representative from Rawlings were on hand Wednesday to present Cavan with his Gold Glove Award.

A 16th-round draft pick from UC Santa Barbara in 2009, Cavan is in his fifth professional season with the San Francisco Giants organization. This season he has been a strong presence both in the field and at the plate, with a .341 batting average and .858 OPS while owning a .963 fielding percentage. He also currently leads the California League in hits and doubles.

This event will mark the first time that Minor League President Pat O'Conner has travelled to San Jose since he presented the organization with the John H. Johnson President's Trophy in 2009.
