The 12 members of the team, selected from eight different regular season Little League teams, continued the recent success of the league in all-star play.  BRSLL has seen a resurgence of talent from the Belmont-Redwood Shores community for the past several years and the youngest group of all-star players proved that this trend would continue.

Led by Manager Greg Snow and Coaches Brian Dowd and Tom McGuire, the team bonded quickly and proved ready for elite level competition.  Ultimately, they fell a little short of a championship, but proved one of the strongest teams in the tournament and will be a force to be reckoned with in the 11 and 12 year-old allstar tournaments in future seasons.

Summary of games:

7/1/2012 BRSLL vs. San Carlos National:

The boys came out with all cylinders firing for a 19-0 opening round victory versus San Carlos National.

Defensively, the team received a pitching gem from Daylin McLemore, Logan Snow, and Aidan Feeley.  The three hurlers combined to throw a Perfect Game (no hits, no errors, no walks, no runs) and establish an ongoing theme throughout the tournament of strong pitching from BRSLL.  The team was aided by strong defensive plays by Justin Anderson at 3rd base, Dalton Meekins and Kevin Cooke at 2nd base, and Drew Dowd at 1st base.

Catcher Tyler McCabe, who belted out three doubles and a grand slam home run, led the team offensively with a memorable day at the plate.  Aidan Feeley and Logan Snow added a single and double each, along with singles from Drew Dowd, Daylin McLemore, Dalton Meekins, and Kevin Cooke.

7/3/2012 BRSLL vs. Foster City:

A showdown of powerful teams took place in the second round, with both teams having easily won their first games.  A large and boisterous crowd cheered on both squads as Foster City broke open a tight 5-5 tie in the 6th and final inning to come out victorious 9-5.

BRSLL was led by strong pitching from starter Drew Dowd and relievers Daylin McLemore and Logan Snow.  Solid outfield plays by AJ Paterra and Tyler McGuire helped keep the game tight as the Foster City batters came out swinging hard.

At the plate, Aidan Feeley led with a home run and two singles.  Logan Snow, Justin Anderson, Kevin Cooke, AJ Paterra, Tyler McGuire, Dalton Meekins, and Jake Robinson all added singles for the BRSLL squad.

7/4/2012 BRSLL vs. San Mateo National:

One day removed from a tough battle against Foster City, the boys were back to play a 4th of July elimination game versus a talented San Mateo National squad.  With both leagues often having success in prior District 52 tournaments, this was billed as a showdown of District 52 powerhouses in a winner-take-all format.  BRSLL battled back from a four run deficit to earn a 16-9 win, highlighted by an 11-run 5th inning.

Defensively, BRSLL was led by a great pitching performance from Logan Snow who went four solid innings, and stellar closing by Daylin McLemore to seal the win.  Dalton Meekins made a great defensive play by throwing out a runner at home from right field.

Aidan Feeley had a double and two singles, Tyler McCabe stroked two doubles, and Daylin McLemore and AJ Paterra each had two singles.  Drew Dowd, Jake Robinson, and Logan Snow added singles.

 7/7/2012 BRSLL vs. Hillsborough:

BRSLL again faced a traditional District 52 powerhouse in Hillsborough.  With rested arms and bats, it was no contest and the BRSLL boys eliminated Hillsborough from the tournament with a 10-2 victory.

BRSLL was led by excellent pitching from Aidan Feeley (three innings), Tyler McGuire (two innings), and Steven Dong (closer).  The team was aided by great outfield catches by Drew Dowd, Jake Robinson, and Dalton Meekins.

Four boys with multiple hits in the game led the team at the plate.  Tyler McCabe had a double and triple, Daylin McLemore stroked a double and single, and Aidan Feeley and Jake Robinson each had two singles.  The big hit of the game came from the hands of Steven Dong who bombed a double well over the center fielder’s head.  Drew Dowd, Kevin Cooke, and AJ Paterra added singles.

7/8/2012 BRSLL vs. San Mateo American:

In a late round showdown between two of the strongest teams in the entire tournament, Belmont-Redwood Shores fell just short and was eliminated in a very well played and tight contest.  It was a pitcher’s duel, with the final score 2-1.  The boys battled all the way to the final out, ending the game with the bases loaded where a few inches could have meant a victory.

Drew Dowd pitched a complete game, supported by strong play behind the plate by catcher Tyler McCabe.  The lefty held a powerful San Mateo American lineup (who had scored 25 runs in an earlier game) to only four hits all day.  In addition, great defensive plays by Justin Anderson and AJ Paterra in the outfield and solid infield play by 3rd baseman Aidan Feeley, shortstop Daylin McLemore, 1st baseman Logan Snow, and 2nd basemen Tyler McGuire and Kevin Cooke kept the San Mateo batters off the bases for most of the game.

Jake Robinson (two singles) and Tyler McCabe (home run) led BRSLL at the plate.  Daylin McLemore, Drew Dowd, and Logan Snow added singles.

BRSLL out-hit opponents

For the whole tournament, BRSLL out-hit each of the five teams they faced and eight boys contributed as pitchers to show the offensive and pitching depth of the team.  This helped the team enjoy a long run in the tournament and ultimately establish themselves as one of the strongest teams in the entire 17-team tournament.

Next year’s 11-year-old tournament will give BRSLL another chance to showcase their talents and continue the recent strong performances of BRSLL all-star teams in District 52 all-star play.
