Belmont Little League All-Star Team to Compete in Bay Area Championship

The undefeated 9/10-year-old All-Star team will compete in the Bay Area championship on Thursday.

Belmont's very own 9/10-year old Little League All-Star team has advanced to the Sectional (greater Bay Area) championship and will play for the title on Thursday night.

It's the first time any Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League All-Star team has advanced this far in 11 years.

"They’re great kids accomplishing great things," Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League President Mike Davies said. "They’ve been dominating every team they’ve played with an unprecedented average winning margin of 10 runs through both the District and Sectional tournaments."

The undefeated 9- and 10-year-olds secured their spot in the Sectionals tournament last Saturday in San Mateo, after winning the District Championship over 15 other Peninsula-based teams.

Davies credits "outstanding" pitching and solid offense to the success of the 13-member all-star team.

"Their pitching staff is exceptionally deep, and they are a great hitting team," Davies said. “It has been a frustrating experience for any team to compete with their prowess at the plate and on the pitcher's mound. What the boys have accomplished to this point is nothing short of amazing, and we are extremely proud of them."

The game will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Los Cerros Middle School in Danville.

If the Belmont team wins the Sectional title, they will go on to represent Section 3 in the NorCal State Championships also held in Danville starting on July 24.
