BRS All Stars Can't Get Past SoCal in Championship Final

Final score: Belmont 0, SoCal 9

The amazing run of the Belmont Redwood Shores Little League All Stars came to an end Saturday night when the team lost to 9-0 to Chula Vista from Southern California.

The team of 11 and 12 year-olds from Belmont and Redwood Shores made it all the way to the championship game in the Western Regional Tournament in San Bernadino. The team had already beaten Chula Vista once in pool play, but couldn't get past the excellent pitching and strong bats of the powerful team from SoCal.

As they have throughout the tournament, local fans from Belmont and Redwood Shores gathered in the student union of Carlmont High School for an ESPN watch party. The crowd was understandably subdued as the game ended, but fans remained hopeful until the final out.

Belmont resident Kristin Jones and her son Ian traveled to San Bernadino early Saturday morning to cheer on the team. After the game, Kristin said the boys were clearly proud of their achievements despite the loss.

"These boys are certainly disappointed, but they are really holding their heads high. Amazing group!" Kristin said in a text message.

Chula Vista will represent the West in the Little League World Series.
