The Carlmont High baseball team secured a share of second place in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division with a 6-2 win at rival Sequoia in a regular-season finale on Friday afternoon.
The Scots, who earned one of the PAL Bay’s four automatic berths in the Central Coast Section playoffs, await their placement in the Division I bracket. The seeds will be announced on Saturday, and the first round begins on Wednesday.
Carlmont center fielder Justin Fink led off the top of the second inning against Sequoia (10-15-1, 4-10 PAL Bay) by blasting an opposite-field home run to leftfield. The Scots (18-8, 9-5) added two more runs in the inning to make it 3-0, and they never trailed.
Freshman Kyle Barret had three hits, including a double, and Bradley Levine came on in relief of Ryan Gavasse to record his sixth win of the year. Nic Bongi threw two scoreless innings to earn his fourth save.
A year after sharing the PAL Bay title with Burlingame, Carlmont again finished tied with the Panthers (16-11, 9-5), this time two games back of first-time champion El Camino (15-10-1, 11-3). over Menlo-Atherton (15-12, 5-9).
over last-place Aragon (9-16-2, 3-11) to pocket the Bay’s final CCS berth.
