Warming up well

Make sure that you always warm-up before practicing!

If you have an audition or performance, I suggest that you first take a long, hot shower and enjoy the steam.  Then, make yourself a nice cup of herbal tea (ginger or lemon is best).

Next do about 15 minutes of warming up.  For great exercises and warm-ups, check out my book: Sing Anything -- Mastering Vocal Styles at www.singanything,com.

Finally, sing through your song once.

Then stop!

You want to make sure you are well-warmed up, but not blown out.  Bring some hot tea with you to your show or audition and humm a little if you find you are waiting a long time.  Have a couple of snacks handy, too.
