Dealing with being sick as a singer

So many folks have caught whatever this evil bug is out there. But, what is a singer to do?

If you start feeling sick – a tickle in your throat even – act right away by taking some Vitamin C, Echinacea, EmergenC, Zinc, or other immune boosting herbs.  Drink tons of water to cleanse the bugs out of your system.  Sleep more than you think you are able to.  Attack the bugs before they get established.

If they do indeed get you really sick, herbal remedies are best for folks who have to actually sing on their cords (as they have less side effects). Try using a Netipot with distilled water -- it naturally flushes away gunk in the sinuses.  Or gargle some salt water for gunk in your throat. Ginger tea or lemon tea with honey are wonderful for you.

As far as medications, Mucinex is the best for singers because of how it works in your body.  Others dry out your vocal cords as they dry up the rest of your mucus.

But, as always, talk to your doctor first!
