Wells Fargo Donates $5,000 to Carlmont High After Computers, iPods Are Stolen

Wells Fargo decided to make the donation after hearing about the Thanksgiving weekend theft of $50,000 worth of MacBooks and iPod Touches.

Following the first theft at in at least a decade in which , Wells Fargo has made a $5,000 donation to the school.

"It's heart-breaking and really scary to think someone would steal from a school, especially around the holiday," Wells Fargo's Mission Coastal Regional President Wendy Haller said in a phone interview on Tuesday.

She said when she woke up Tuesday morning and heard the story in the news about the theft of 25 MacBooks and 30 iPod Touches from a locked classroom at Carlmont High sometime between the evening of Nov. 24 and Monday morning, it hit close to home.

"My brother is a teacher in Colorado and I know how much of an impact it's going to have on that school," Haller said. "We just wanted to help any way we could."

Carlmont High Principal Raul Zamora issued a statement on Monday regarding the thefts of the equipment, asking for anyone with information to come forward to the .

"We are collaborating closely with Belmont Police Department officials who are conducting the investigation," Zamora said in the statement. "To supplement evidence they have gathered, we are providing access to campus surveillance footage."

Sequoia Union High School District spokeswoman Bettylu Smith said a burglary at Carlmont High is rare.

There hasn't been a single record of a theft at Carlmont High in at least 10 years, she said.
