Trade Your Kids' Snickers Bars for School Force Bucks

In a unique "candy buy-back" program, local dentists will donate $2 to School Force for every pound of loot turned in. The surplus candy will then be shipped to U.S. troops oversees as part of Operation Gratitude.

Belmont kids are invited to put their Halloween candy collections to good use in a program sponsored by local dentists and the Belmont UPS Store.

Drs. Urmi Amin (pediatric dentist), Michael Chang (orthodontist), and Nancy Kaher (general dentist), will donate $2 per pound of wrapped candy turned in (up to $3,500) to School Force, the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District’s education foundation.

The collected candy will be shipped to US troops overseas by managers Sushil and Anjana Kalara of the Belmont UPS Store.

From Nov. 1-4, students can drop their Halloween candy off in any school office in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District (Fox, Cipriani, Central, Nesbit, Redwood Shores Elementary, Sandpiper or Ralston Middle School).

This is the second year for the program, started by Dr. Amin, who is a parent at Cipriani School. Dr. Amin recruited Drs. Chang and Kahler to join the buy-back program. Last year, over 1,500 pounds of candy were donated to Operation Gratitude.
