Stanford Hoops Stars Coming to Ralston

The Stanford women's basketball team will be in the Ralston gym at 11:40 Wednesday to encourage students to "Reach for the Stars."

Stanford women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer and her players will make an appearance at a special assembly on Wednesday at Ralston Middle School. The nation's top-ranked team will motivate students to "Reach for the Stars."

VanDerveer and her team visited Ralston in 2010. On that visit, VanDerveer told the Ralston students how her love of basketball as a young girl led her to set a goal of going to the Olympics. In the summer of 1996, Coach VanDerveer led the United States women’s basketball team to the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics.

And last week, the Cardinal took over the top spot in the Associated Press poll after beating Baylor, ending the Lady Bears’ 42-game winning streak.
