(Editor's note: In an earlier article, it was stated that Playborhood founder Mike Lanza would speak at the January meeting of the Central Elementary School PTA. That date has been changed to March 21 at 7:30 pm.)
One of Mike Lanza's greatest fears in early fatherhood was that his kids wouldn't have very much fun.
Thinking back on his own childhood, Lanza realized that his best memories revolved around unstructured play---doing things outside his house that required nothing more than some imagination, a bit of daring, and a buddy or two (or 10).
From those memories, and his mission to provide his, and others' kids with a world of unstructured play, Lanza created Playborhood.com, whose goal is to get kids off the computer and into the yard.
Mike will be the guest speaker at the PTA Parent Education Meeting, March 21 at 7:30 pm.
According to Playborhood.com, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children have less than two hours of screen time a day, and that they be encouraged to play freely - with minimal or no adult supervision.
In his presentation, Mike will show parents that it’s possible to get kids out into the neighborhood everyday, and he’ll give specific recommendations on how to make it happen.
