Wildland Urban Interface CERT Training

Did You Know?

In San Mateo County, the following nine cities are within the Wildland Urban Interface (the area between developed and unoccupied lands): San Carlos, Belmont, Redwood City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough, Pacifica and Portola Valley.

Why Attend?

California has one of the most severe wildland fire problems in the world because of: population, vegetation, topography and climate. In wildland/urban interface areas, wildfire isn’t a matter of "IF," it’s a matter of "WHEN."

This Wildland Urban Interface training was developed to provide CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members with an increased knowledge about interface dangers and how as a team they can prepare. The presentation will cover the following: Interface dangers, including basic fire behavior and environmental influences; wildland fire safety, including how to prepare your home, yards and neighborhoods; and what to do when a wildland fire is threatening homes and your community.
