Letter to the Editor: Do You Have a Son or Daughter Serving in the Military?

A chance encounter has a Belmont mom wondering how many other students from Cipriani Elementary School may be serving in the military.

[Editor's Note: The following Letter to the Editor was sent to Patch earlier this week and we thought it would be a great opportunity to connect other families from the early days of Cipriani Elementary School (or other Belmont/Redwood Shores schools) who may have sons and daughters serving in the military.]

Dear Editor,

My son, Michael Chase, was in the first returning kindergarten class at Cipriani Elementary School in 1994.*

I ran in to a mom at Safeway that I hadn’t seen since the kids moved on to Ralston. They are 2007 high school grads.

She told me son is in the Marines. My son is also in the Marines.

A few days later I found out another classmate was in the Navy.

I’m just wondering how many of our local kids have entered the military.

I went to Barrett, Ralston, and Carlmont. I do not recall any of my classmates enlisting. Any chance people (parents) can post in the Patch to get an idea?

Denise Chase
