Central and Sandpiper Students' Artwork Featured on SamTrans Buses

Congratulations to first grader Olivia Pon and and third grader Isaiah Crump for being selected as winners in the SamTrans art competition.

 

Two students from the (BRSSD) will have their artwork noticed by commuters throughout the county as their colorful depictions of bus rides make the rounds on the sides of buses for the rest of the year.

Earlier this week, SamTrans announced the winners of its annual countywide student art competition, Art Takes a Bus Ride. The artists, who are in first to sixth grade, were asked to illustrate the theme “Get Out & Ride.”

Among the winners were Olivia Pon, a first grader in Jennifer Zanotto's class at , and Isaiah Crump, a third grader in Lynn Bjorkquist's class at .

Olivia and Isaiah join four other students from around San Mateo County whose work was selected from 300 submissions from 15 schools.

The winning entries of all the artists will be featured on ad cards inside SamTrans buses and on the outside of a SamTrans bus – the Art Bus.  The Art Bus will be used to provide regular revenue service throughout the SamTrans service area for the next year.

The winners received a SamTrans monthly pass, a certificate and a framed copy of the bus ad card that displays their art, as well as an assortment of art supplies. On a typical weekday, nearly 12,000 young people ride SamTrans buses, more than 25 percent of the District’s total ridership.

Other winners include: Nikaella Mariano, of Ponderosa Elementary School in South San Francisco; Sara Ababseh of Cabrillo Elementary School in Pacifica; and Sakina Bambot of Tierra Linda Middle School in San Carlos.
