Canada College Professor Honored at the White House

After White House reception, community college educator enjoys kudos at home.

A Canada College professor who was recently  for his mentoring achievements was recognized by students, colleagues and community members on the campus Thursday.

Professor Amelito Enriquez, who teaches math and engineering at  was one of nine individuals to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.

Enriquez attended a ceremony at the White House earlier this week.

Thursday afternoon, the local academic community honored the professor with student testimonials about his influence on their education and careers, event organizers said.

Enriquez, who lives in San Francisco, is helping spearhead an effort to send engineering students from community colleges to the University of California and California State University systems, while increasing the number of minority students in STEM programs, Canada College officials said.
