There were a few things that Sandpiper Elementary School teacher Connie Morgan cherished: gardening, art and teaching.
So when Morgan died last summer after a battle with lung cancer, the Sandpiper community decided to do something that would keep her memory alive for future generations of young learners.
The Sandpiper Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is accepting donations for a hand-crafted mosaic tile bench that will be placed in the school garden in Morgan's honor.
Morgan, 62, taught in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District for more than 20 years. In addition to teaching at Sandpiper, she taught at Nesbit elementary School. She lived in Belmont.
In a statement released by the Sandpiper PTA, Morgan they said, could often be seen on the Sandpiper campus in her paint splattered smock with a smile on her face as she prepared to teach the children about artists such as Van Gogh or Monet.
The statement continued, "It’s been said that a teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. Connie Morgan did all these with exuberance. She had an in incredible gift for being able to bring out the best in every child who crossed the threshold of her classroom door. All those who were lucky enough to be taught by Mrs. Morgan will remember her as a teacher who believed in them and prepared them for success in life. She always went above and beyond her teaching duties to ensure the happiness of not only her students and their parents, but also her colleagues."
