Belmont School District Welcomes New Assistant Superintendent

Dr. Suzanne Roy brings experience as a teacher, coach, counselor and administrator.

Dr. Suzanne Roy has been hired as the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District’s new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Personnel.

Roy, who's appointment was made official at the Sept. 1 board of trustees meeting, most recently served as superintendent/principal of the Horicon School District in Northwest Sonoma County.

Her background includes principal positions in two high-performing districts in San Diego County, as well as principal positions at a middle school and a National Blue Ribbon School elementary school in the Poway Unified School District.

After earning her undergraduate degree from Eastern Illinois University, Roy began her teaching career in Central Illinois. She holds a doctorate from United States International University and has been active with The Principals’ Center at Harvard as a member of the National Advisory Board.

Roy is a visiting university lecturer in Schools of Education and a state and national presenter at educational conferences and the California Writing Project. Two articles authored by Roy, Leadership is like Boogie-Boarding: Parallel Lessons and Developing Writer’s Workshop: One Principal’s Perspective, were published in professional journals.

As an educator, Roy worked her way through the ranks as elementary school counselor, physical education teacher, middle school language arts teacher, counselor, assistant principal and principal.

She has coached at the middle school and collegiate levels. Under her guidance, the Horicon School District implemented an intervention program, standards-based report cards, benchmark assessments, and Character Counts!

Dr. Emerita Orta-Camilleri, superintendant of Belmont-Redwood Shores School District said, “We are very fortunate to have someone with her background and experience join our district.”
