Belmont School Board to Vote Tonight on Boundary Issue

The meeting will be 7 p.m. at Ralston Middle School.

After postponing the vote twice, the Board of Trustees is slated to make a decision tonight on the district's capacity problem.

Two Belmont elementary schools—Cipriani and Central—face over-crowding problems, while Fox and Nesbit have room for additional students.

One of the three options the board has discussed is redefining elementary school boundaries to shift a portion of students from the over-crowded schools to the schools with room.

That option calls for moving areas 41, 42 and 43 from Central Elementary to Nesbit Elementary as well as Cipriani areas 20, 23 and 24 to Central, and areas 25 and 26 to Fox.

Another idea brought before the board is to implement a lottery system when enrollment for schools reaches capacity. The third option, introduced at the most recent school board meeting on June 2, calls for all together.
