Belmont Parents Invite Families to Community Picnic

A few Belmont parents want to bridge the gap among the elementary schools.

Belmont kids and their parents are invited to attend a community outreach picnic Saturday afternoon at Alexander Park.

Central Elementary parent Mike Rothstein and his wife, along with Nesbit Elementary School parents Teresa and Ajay Patel, came up with the idea to hold a picnic to help bridge the gap among the elementary schools in Belmont and Redwood Shores.

"This is purely a positive community outreach," Rothstein said. "We're celebrating our kids. Let's get to know our neighbors."

Rothstein said his children attend Central, but many of his neighbors' kids go to Cipriani Elementary School.

"This is so people can get to know [kids] in other elementary schools," he said.

Residents are asked to bring their own picnic to the event. The picnic is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Park.

Rothstein said he hopes this is the first event of many that includes no political agenda; simply parents and their children from all the Belmont and Redwood Shores elementary schools coming together to get to know one another.

"We hope it continues through the summer and next year," Rothstein said.
