Volunteers Needed for Belmont Creek Cleanup this Saturday

Annual cleanup has become the state's largest volunteer event.

As a participant in California Coastal Cleanup Day, the City of Belmont is organizing volunteers to cleanup the Belmont Creek this Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. till noon.

California Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup.  In 2010, over 82,500 volunteers removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. The cleanup has become the state’s largest volunteer event.

The goal of the event is to gather friends, families, students, service groups and neighbors to help take care of the environment, show community support and learn about the impacts of litter.

Belmont volunteers are asked to gather in front of City Hall, located at One Twin Pines Lane. They will be sent to various locations along the creek stretching all the way to the bay. To minimize footprints, volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, buckets and water bottles.

Prizes will be awarded for the most creatively decorated bucket/reusable bag and for the most unique item found in the creek. Additionally, a SoilSaver Compost Bin will be raffled off.
