San Carlos City Council to Consider Plastic Bag Ban

The council will take Belmont's draft ordinance banning plastic bags into consideration.

The San Carlos City Council is set to discuss the possibility of banning single-use plastic bags on Monday night, five months after the topic was introduced to Belmont leaders for the first time.

Monday night's meeting will gauge whether San Carlos council members wish to pursue a ban on plastic bags.

Should the council opt to head in that direction, the city would hold outreach meetings with local businesses to explore the potential impact.

The San Carlos City Council will review Belmont's proposed ordinance to ban plastic bags, as well as ordinances from other cities where the ban has been approved, including Palo Alto and Manhattan Beach.

The Belmont City Council overwhelmingly supported a plastic bag ban when the item was brought up at at on May 31.

Belmont resident Mike Swire introduced the topic in February, when the council was receptive to the idea as well.

The San Carlos City Council meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at San Carlos City Hall, located at 600 Elm St.
