SamTrans Now Accepting Clipper Cards

The agency announced on Wednesday it would begin accepting the regional card.

SamTrans now accepts Clipper Cards along with other Bay Area public transportation agencies in an effort to promote the use of plastic instead of paper cards.

The Clipper Card is an all-in-one, reloadable transit card. AC-Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Ferry and Muni already accept the Clipper Card.

According to SamTrans, all Clipper Card readers are now located on the front entrance of the buses. After a rider gets on the bus, the rider must tag the card by holding it up to the Clipper logo on the reader until the rider hears a beep and sees the green light.

Customers traveling north to San Francisco via Route KX must tag their cards both when they get on the bus in San Mateo County and again when they get off in San Francisco, according to SamTrans officials.

On all other routes, riders only need to tag the Clipper Card once upon entry to the bus.
