Letter to the Editor: 'Who Voted for Recology Contract?'

The author inquires about the city's contract with trash/recycling vendor, Recology.

Dear Editor,

Some of us Belmont citizens are not very bright. We might understand that the annual Consumer Price Index or rate of inflation is somewhere in the ballpark of 3%.

Yet for the last few years Recology has been requesting outrageous increases. 12.15% increase for the next year! This is worst than the BART negotiations.

Who are the Belmont Council members who voted for the contract with Recology? Who are the consultants that recommended Recology to the City?

We need to see the financial statements for Recology for the last few years. Surely, the proposed increases are not for labor. And hopefully, we are not paying for capital expenditures or reserves. If the Patch could furnish these (or a website) to the public, it would be helpful.

Where are the Belmont City Council incumbents and candidates on this economic shakedown?

Someone once said that we deserve the government we vote for.
