Lane Closures Small Price to Pay for 'Smarter' El Camino Corridor
This week, motorists can expect lane closures and delays along El Camino Real in Belmont as Caltrans installs an Intelligent Transportation System.
As part of the Smart Corridor project, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will continue installing new traffic management tools this week along Route 82 (El Camino Real). The project will require lane closures along El Camino Real, including Belmont, starting Monday morning.
Caltrans crews will be installing an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) system that provides traffic management tools to manage traffic on local streets and State Route 82. Improvements include, a fiber optic communication system, interconnection of local and State traffic signals, trailblazer signs, message signs, vehicle detection systems and fixed cameras.
This system will run from the City of San Bruno to Redwood City.
