Good news—the deadline to apply for a spot three city commissions has been extended to 5:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.
The City of Belmont is looking for a few "can do" residents to fill vacancies on Planning, Finance and Park & Rec (Youth member) commissions.
According to the city manager’s office, commissioners are volunteers who meet once or twice a month and make recommendations to city staff and council. Here's the scoop on each commission's responsibilities:
There is one vacancy on the Planning Commission for a term ending in March of 2015. The Planning Commission meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. The Commission reviews and takes action on planning applications, and makes recommendations to the City Council on zoning and land use issues.
Parks & Recreation Commission (Youth member)
There is one opening for Youth seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The City Council will consider applications from Belmont residents who are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old. Parent/Guardian consent is mandatory. There are several months remaining on this vacant seat (expires March of 2014). Youth members are full voting members of the Commission.
There is one vacant position on the Finance Commission for a term ending in March of 2014. The Finance Commission meets bimonthly on the every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and participates in the budget review process, conducts an annual review of the City’s investment policy, and at the request of the City Council, evaluates proposals, programs and contracts for long and short term financial consequences. Anyone appointed to this vacant term would be eligible to reapply in the spring at the end of the current term.
Applicants must live in Belmont. Except for a small stipend paid to Planning Commissioners, there is no compensation for these positions.
The deadline to apply is 5:00 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2013, and the application is available on the City’s website: www.belmont.gov under “City Council and Commissions,” by calling (650) 595-7408 or 595-7413, or in person at the City Manager’s Office or the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, One Twin Pines Lane.
