Election Results Will be Released Today

Will a be winner declared today in Belmont's city council race? Perhaps.

San Mateo County Elections officials will release an updated count Thursday of votes cast in Tuesday's election. This count will reflect vote-by-mail ballots that are still being processed and paper ballots that are still being scanned.

In Belmont, that could mean a winner will be declared in the race for city council.

, incumbent Christine Wozniak and challenger Eric Reed were only 14 votes apart in the contest for one of two city council seats. With all 19 Belmont precincts counted, Wozinak had a total of 1,510 to Reed's 1,496. This total includes vote-by-mail ballots and early voting totals that had been counted as of Nov. 8.

At 4:30 today, the county will release the totals of vote-by-mail ballots and paper ballots that were dropped off or filled out at polls on Tuesday. Another release is scheduled for next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.. 

Any vote-by-mail ballots must have been received by 8:00 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.

According to election officials, 74,189 votes were cast in San Mateo County on Nov. 8.
