City Council Appoints New Members to Planning, Parks and Rec, Finance Commissions

The new members were appointed at Tuesday night's meeting.

The City Council appointed new members to the Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Finance Commission at Tuesday night's meeting.

Margo Cheechov and Susan Wright were both re-appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission with five votes each from the Council, and sitting commissioners Rich Bortoli and Kevin Sullivan were also re-appointed, with three votes each.

The one member of the Planning Commission who re-applied, Kenn Parsons, was appointed with five votes. Filling the two other open seats will be Gladwyn d'Souza and Cyndi Wheeler, who each received three votes. D'Souza will serve the full term while Wheeler was appointed to fill Phil Mathewson's seat, who resigned with one year remaining.

The two available youth Parks and Recreation Commission seats will be filled by sitting commissioner Alexander Bartee, who received five votes, and Pantae Zakeri, who was given three votes.

Richard Ashby was appointed to fill one of the two vacant seats on the Finance Commission.

There is still one seat available on the Finance Commission, which meets bimonthly at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Commissioners participate in the budget review process and conduct an annual review of the city's investment policy, as well as evaluate proposals, programs and contracts at the request of the City Council.
