Cha-Ching: Belmont's City Sales Tax Returns Up 6%

Belmont is in line with both the county and the state in showing increases in quarterly sales tax returns.

The second quarter of 2013 was a good one, financially speaking, for the City of Belmont. According to Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles's Weekly Update, preliminary results for the second quarter sales tax were positive.

Last week, the city’s revenue consultant, MuniServices, LLC reported that the city’s sales tax receipts have increased 5.9 percent, and the state and San Mateo County have both increased by 6.6 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, over the same quarter last year.

This quarter’s result continues to be encouraging for Belmont, with the last five quarters reporting positive sales tax returns, Scoles reported in his Sept. 20 newsletter.
