Belmont Launches Public Safety Channel on YouTube

Police and fire departments will showcase videos on crime prevention, fire safety and emergency preparedness.

The newly formed Belmont Public Safety Office is taking advantage of technology to educate residents on everything from when to call the police to prepping for an emergency.

With the launch of the Belmont Public Safety Channel on YouTube, the police and fire departments will make information more accessible to the public.

The YouTube channel will be used to showcase videos dealing with crime prevention, fire safety and emergency preparedness.

Belmont police and fire are separate departments within the City but

“This arrangement allowed us to develop this idea together and will lead to other cooperative efforts to improve public safety in Belmont,” said Fire Chief Doug Fry.

“We want to make this type of safety information more accessible to the public in an easy-to-use and hopefully entertaining format,” Fire Chief Fry added.

This is not Belmont’s first use of high-tech media for outreach to the community.

“Belmont PD has been on Twitter for about a year and currently have over 625 followers,” said Police Chief Mattei. “It is important that we communicate with the pubic using formats they want to use, including YouTube.”
