Belmont Garbage Rates Going Up in 2014

The Belmont City Council approved a resolution revising solid waste rates for 2014.

On Tuesday Nov. 27, the Belmont City Council adopted a resolution revising the Recology solid waste rates for 2014, according to Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles' Weekly Update newsletter.

Belmont’s franchise agreement with Recology of San Mateo County (Recology) provides for an annual review of the maximum rates that Recology may charge Belmont residential and commercial customers for solid waste services.

The maximum rate is based on financial factors in the franchise agreement and for calendar year 2014 resulted in a maximum rate adjustment of 12.15 percent over the 2013 rates (over ½ of this increase is due to previous increases that were delayed until this period).

The table below shows the approved Residential Solid Waste Rates for 2014 and associated cost change.

 20 Gallons               $19.27             $21.61            $2.34
