Tseng is Elected to Los Gatos Saratoga High School Board

Longtime trustee Lorrie Wernick lost election to Saratoga resident Katherine Tseng and incumbent trustee Rosemary Rossi.

Update: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7: After serving on the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District for 16 years, incumbent trustee Lorrie Wernick appeared to have lost Tuesday's election by a narrow margin.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Wernick had gathered 8,120 votes, or 31.21 percent; while newcomer Katherine Tseng was in first place with 9,611 votes or 36.94 percent and incumbent Rosemary Rossi had received 8,281 or 31.83 percent. Only 161 votes separated Rossi from Wernick.

Wernick has been a member of the LGSUHSD since November of 1998. She was seeking her fifth four-year term. She's a longtime Los Gatos resident who's  worked in the public school system for more than 30 years.

Tseng, a Saratoga resident, was looking forward to serving the district. She celebrated her victory during a gathering at Hong's Gourmet restaurant on Big Basin Way in Saratoga. She was joined by incumbent Saratoga Council member Howard Miller and other supporters.

Although Tseng has never held elective office, her 14 years of community experience and 15 years as an actuarial consultant in financial analysis,
strategic planning, risk management are sure to assist her in helping the district manage its finances.

“I feel it was a very rigorous campaign and as most campaigns they make you better by making you aware of the issues. I feel I learned a lot,” Rossi said.

“My job is to hire the very best people that we can, and to help them to improve and expand. Listen to the community and what they expect from the schools and continue to provide the best education that we can, and keeping up to date with what’s out there,”  she added.

Katherine will be a welcome addition to the school board. As a Saratoga High School parent, I am glad to see that we now have a very competent person who really knows what is going on in the high school now. We are so lucky to have her in this position! Suzie Yoshihara

Katherine Tseng is undoubtedly the right choice for the LGSUHSD Board. Congratulations, Katherine!
