Water Main Break Cracks Sidewalk

The water main break near Shalizaar Restaurant occurred just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A water main break cracked the sidewalk in front of Restaurant in Belmont near the border of San Mateo on Wednesday afternoon, spilling water onto El Camino Real.

The water main break was reported at 3:37 p.m. in the 300 block of El Camino Real near Anita Avenue, Belmont police said.

Water spilled into the right lane of El Camino Real and caused the sidewalk to buckle where a light pole is supported.

As of 5 p.m., police remained at the scene and were investigating whether the light pole's structure was compromised. The light pole will have to be removed in order to repair the water main, which could take up to two hours.

Traffic wasn't impacted on El Camino Real due to the incident.

The cause of the water main break is unknown and remains under investigation.
