Update: Belmont Detective Recognizes, Arrests Suspect Walking Along Ralston Avenue

Detective Pete Lotti arrested a transient man suspected of robbing a bank in Redwood Shores on Tuesday.

An alert Belmont Police Department detective arrested a bank robbery suspect Wednesday afternoon on Ralston Ave, near Highway 101.

According to Captain Patrick Halleran of the Belmont Police Department, on Wednesday at about 5:10 p.m., Belmont Police Detective Sergeant Pete Lotti was driving eastbound on Ralston Avenue at Shoreway Road, when he saw a man walking toward him on the sidewalk. 

Sgt. Lotti immediately recognized the man as the suspect he had seen in bulletin, regarding a bank robbery at the Provident Credit Union in Redwood Shores that had occurred the day before. Halleran said Sgt. Lotti called for assistance from Belmont patrol units and the suspect, Carmen Polito, age 31, was taken into custody without incident.

The Provident Credit Union located in the 200 block of Redwood Shores Parkway was robbed on Tuesday afternoon, at about 2:30 p.m. As part of their investigation, Redwood City Police distributed a bulletin with bank security camera photos of the suspect to Bay Area law enforcement agencies. According to Halleran, when Sgt. Lotti saw Polito, he immediately recognized him as the suspect in the RCPD bulletin.

Polito, who also uses the last name Pulito, was subsequently turned over to Redwood City Police. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for robbery and outstanding arrest warrants.
