Trial Date Moved for Former Ralston Custodian

Andre Edwards is charged with two counts of committing lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14.

 

In a pretrial conference hearing in San Mateo Superior Court on Monday, the , Andre Edwards, was moved from Aug. 20 to Oct. 29, 2012 at 8:45 a.m., with another pretrial conference scheduled for September 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The case is set in Department 8 in the courtroom of Judge Mark Forcum.

Edwards, 52, is of committing lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14. He was on April 10, 2012, and is out of custody on $50,000 bail. His defense attorney is Eric Hove, however, Hove is currently serving jury duty, so Edwards was represented in court on Monday by attorney Josh Bentley.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, in his office at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2010. Edwards allegedly "grabbed her buttock and cupped her breast with his hand," the district attorney's office reported.

The student told school officials after first period, and the police were called.

It was the second time a student had accused Edwards of such behavior; in 2001, Edwards allegedly put his hands down the pants of a 13-year-old girl and touched her genital area, according to the district attorney's office.

That girl also reported the incident, but the case was not prosecuted due to lack of corroboration. Edwards was told, however, to not be alone with any students in his janitor office.

Edwards has denied the claims. He retired from the on Feb. 28, 2011 where he had been employed since September 1987.
