Theft in Belmont Leads to Pursuit, Crash in San Carlos

Two suspects have been arrested after fleeing the scene of the theft in Belmont early this morning and crashing in San Carlos.

A 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were arrested after allegedly entering an unlocked vehicle in Belmont, then fleeing the scene in a car and crashing on a lawn in San Carlos early this morning, said.

Belmont police responded to a home in the 3500 block of Hillcrest Drive at about 4 a.m. today after a resident reported that two suspects were entering an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway, Belmont police Capt. Dan DeSmidt said.

The suspects fled in a car as soon as police arrived, and refused to stop for the patrol unit, DeSmidt said.

Police followed the suspects, before the suspects crashed onto the front lawn of a home in San Carlos.

The two suspects, Travis Castellanos of Montera and Danielle Gonzalez of Pacifica, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. They were booked into San Mateo County Jail later this morning, DeSmidt said.

No one else was injured.

Castellanos, the driver, and Gonzalez are being held for violating parole and probation terms, pending further investigation into charges related to evading police, possessing stolen property, theft and criminal conspiracy.

Belmont police are investigating several additional car thefts reported in western Belmont early this morning. Anyone reporting a theft from a vehicle, or who may have information about the case, is asked to call the Belmont Police Department at (650) 595-7400.
